Delicious fried green tomato BLT —a twist on the classic bacon lettuce tomato sandwich, but with Southern fried green tomatoes! Top with a spicy remoulade sauce (or see our other recommendations for BLT sauces). This recipe makes an easy lunch or dinner recipe and is great for what to do with leftover fried green tomatoes.
How To Make The Best Fried Green Tomato BLT Recipe (With A Secret Sauce!)
Basic Ingredients For Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich With Fried Green Tomatoes:
- Crispy bacon (I like to use thick cut bacon slices for this sandwich recipe)
- Fried green tomatoes (GET FRIED GREEN TOMATOES RECIPE PRINTABLE HERE)
- Hearty bread of choice (sourdough, rye, whole grain, rye bread, Hawaiian bread, even a gourmet hamburger bun or deli bun!), lightly toasted
- Lettuce of choice (we use iceberg lettuce because that’s how I had BLTs as a kid, but sometimes I use Romaine lettuce, too)
- Tangy remoulade sauce (see spicy sauce recipe below)
Those are the basic BLT fried green tomato ingredients. You can definitely play around with this sandwich recipe to adjust to your taste. However, I really think the types of sauces you use makes or breaks this BLT sandwich!
How To Assemble A Fried Green Tomato BLT
- Lightly toast bread (even better if you can toast only one side of each slice!).
- Liberally spread homemade spicy remoulade sauce on the inside of each slice of bread. (RECIPE BELOW)
- You can layer the bacon, lettuce, and fried tomatoes in any order you want. (Sometimes I start with lettuce, then bacon, then tomatoes, and top with another piece of lettuce, but my husband is picky about wanting the meat next to the sauce. You’ll have to play around with it and see how you like it!)
Sauce For Fried Green Tomatoes BLTs
This Southern bacon lettuce tomato can be a dry sandwich because of the bread and then the breading on the fried tomatoes. So, you’ll definitely want to add a sauce on both sides of the bread (inside, of course).
But, the sauce is really where you can have some fun, so play around with it.
We use a simple spicy mayonnaise (see below for the spicy homemade remoulade sauce) or just plain mayo, but try some of these other ideas!
Just be sure to spread the topping (creamy sauces) on the inside of both sides of the bread to help combat the dryness.

- Cream cheese
- Pimento cheese
- Mayo and dill pickle juice
- Garlic aioli
- BBQ sauce (my daughter loves a fried green tomato BLT with barbecue sauce!)
How To Make Spicy Remoulade Sauce
RECIPE TIP: This sauce also makes a great fried green tomato dipping sauce if you’re eating the fried tomatoes alone or serving them as a side dish!
Ingredients For Fried Green Tomato BLT Sauce:

- 2-3 drops Sriracha Sauce (or more, if you like spicy!)
To Make Homemade Remoulade Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix together the mayo and Sriracha.
- Spread on bread for BLT sauce or use as a dipping sauce for fried green tomatoes, french fries, or other fried vegetables!
