How To Make Eclipse Candy Bark Step-By-Step

This simple dessert is an easy addition to your solar eclipse recipes for a party.

Recipe Tips

You can make this easy bark recipe in any colors of chocolate melts like these, but we chose black and yellow for a solar eclipse party.

If you’re making this recipe for a space themed party, use black, light blue, and purple! (Or, adjust it to your party colors for any special occasion!)

This sweet treat also makes a cute party favor in cellophane bags with eclipse ribbon for a solar eclipse party or a space or galaxy party.

We added it to our solar eclipse party snack board (dessert board) and it was a great addition.

If you’ve never made a recipe for candy bark, this is a really fun recipe to make with kids. They’ll love swirling the colors together and adding fun sprinkles, but the most fun they’ll have is breaking the bark into pieces!

RECIPE NOTE: The black melts may look brown when melted depending on the brand and type of melts you use (ours did), but it dried a lot darker into the black bark you see in the finished pictures.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds black candy melts
  • 1/2 pound yellow candy melts
  • Yellow sprinkles "jimmies"
  • Black sprinkles
  • Yellow star candy sprinkles

Instructions

  • Line a rimmed half baking sheet (18x13) with wax paper, leaving some hanging over the ends. Set aside.
  • Melt black candy melts according to package directions. Spread across the bottom of the baking sheet.
  • Immediately melt the yellow candy melts according to package directions.
  • Place 2 small spoons of melted yellow candy on top of the melted black chocolate. Place them opposite ends from each other.
  • Use a a fork or skewer to swirl the yellow on top of the black. You want a swirled effect and not mix in the yellow to the black. Add more melted yellow until you get the desired effect.
  • Sprinkle with yellow sprinkles, black sprinkles, and yellow star sprinkles on top.
  • Set aside until cooled completely and hard. It can take about 2 hours at room temperature or around 20 minutes in the refrigerator.*
  • Use the ends of the wax paper to remove the set bark. Turn onto a cutting board and break pieces apart. The number of pieces you get will depend on how big or small you break the pieces of bark. Enjoy!

Notes

*I like to let bark candy harden at room temperature because sometimes if you put it in the refrigerator to harden it collects condensation, which can affect the candy sprinkles.
