Jawsome Watermelon
Instead of a plain fruit salad for your party platter, make a watermelon carved to look like a shark! Cut the mouth piece and scoop a little of the watermelon out.
Then, fill with the cut up watermelon or a mix of fruits for a fruit salad.
This would be really fun if you’re having a Jaws movie night!
PRO PARTY TIP: Make shark eyes with cheese circles or Babybel secured onto the watermelon with toothpicks or skewers.
Beach Layer Jello Cups
These are pretty standard at a shark party, fish party, or beach themed party and you can make them several ways.
You can layer them like in the shot glasses with crushed graham crackers or cookies in the bottom and then vanilla pudding in the middle, a little more crushed graham crackers, and then blue tinted pudding on top. Top it off with fruit (like frozen blueberries or blackberries), a dusting of powdered sugar, shark candy, and/or a mini umbrella like this.
Or, make blue Jello cups each topped with a gummy shark like this or stick a triangle of fruit leather in the top for a shark fin.
We made these beach sand pudding cups as ant cups for a bug party, but you can easily make them without the “ants” and instead add shark sprinkles or shark candies on top.
Shark Attack Popcorn
Popcorn mixed with blue candy melts and sprinkled with shark-shaped candies or shark gummies.
Or, you can make ocean blue popcorn or blue and white popcorn like we did!
Shark Fin Quesadillas
Quesadillas cut into triangle take on the shape of shark fins and are super simple shark snacks.
Served with shark bait salsa of your choice.
You can make these in any flavor you want, but you can never go wrong with just cheese for a kids party.
(If you want to be really gross you can tell kids that ketchup is shark blood. They love that kind of stuff!)
Ocean Party Punch
This blue punch made with lemonade, blue Kool-Aid, and/or lemon-lime soda is a super simple party drink. (If it’s a hot day and the party is outside, be sure to blend in some crushed ice)!
Garnish with cherries, pineapple slices, and add gummy sharks and blue straws for a fun twist. You can even add a little coconut to the rim for a tropical flair. (Beware, though, you’ll hear the kids who don’t like coconut complain about it!)
These sour sharks are really good with this drink!
Quick And Easy Party Tip: Buy blue drinks of any kind at the grocery store and do half blue drink and half Sprite for a fizzy fun fin drink ready in minutes!
Cheater Shark Cake
Ok, I’m going to let you in on a little party secret of mine:
I RARELY bake cakes anymore.
One of my secrets now is that I buy a plain (non-decorated) store-bought cake with the icing color that I need. Then, I transform it into whatever party theme I’m having.
Sometimes it’s as simple as making a face with fondant or edible modeling chocolate.
Other times I buy candy, sprinkles, and decorations to add to the top.
You can easily do this with a shark cake for birthdays or party cakes.
Buy a round cake with blue icing. Then, use shark cake toppers and ocean cake decorations to easily transform it into your shark party cake! You can find a ton of cute shark toppers and shark decorations for parties here.
Shark Fin Sandwiches
Make mini sandwiches (finger sandwiches) cut into the shape of shark fins or sharks using cookie cutters like this.
Fill with variety of kid-friendly options — Nutella and marshmallow cream, turkey and cheese, or plain cheese.
Keep them simple!
Blue Ocean Dip
Add blue food coloring to ranch vegetable dip. (I just buy the premade dip at the store, but you can use your favorite dip recipe.)
Serve this easy dip with a variety of veggies and crackers shaped like fish and sea creatures.
PRO PARTY TIP: We made this easy dip for a pirate party (see it here). I add Goldfish crackers to the top of the dip to look like they were swimming in the dip.
Fun Shark Children’s Books
Shark books for kids make fun party favors or even decorations for a shark party or shark week unit studies!
Here are some fun kids’ books with shark themes:
- Sharks (Smithsonian Kids First Discovery Books)
