This spicy sauteed green beans recipe is one of my favorite vegetable side dishes for dinner or even holiday recipe ideas. They’re a little different than regular green beans because they have a little bit of heat spicy flavor which goes well with the fresh green bean crunch.
I often make these as a Thanksgiving side dish for turkey and when I need easy sides for Easter ham, but they’re a go-to summer recipe for me too with fresh garden green beans.
Plus, this easy recipe is ready in about 10 minutes!

RECIPE TIP: This recipe is best with fresh green beans instead of frozen green beans or canned beans.
This is an easy recipe to double or triple the recipe for crowds if you’re cooking for a large group or for holiday dinners, just cook the beans in batches if you have a large amount.

Spicy Sauteed Green Beans Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound fresh green beans washed, with strings and stem ends removed
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil extra virgin
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
TO BLANCH THE GREEN BEANS
- Add cold water and ice to a large bowl to make an ice water bath. Set aside.
- Place enough water in a large pot (enough to cover the green beans). Add salt. Bring the water to boil.
- Carefully add the green beans to the boiling water. Cook beans for 3-5 minutes, until just tender, but still crisp and bright green.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the green beans and immediately place into the ice water bath. When cooled, strain and set aside.
TO SAUTEE THE GREEN BEANS
- Spread olive oil in pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the garlic and pepper flakes to the pan. Sautee just until garlic is translucent.
- Add the drained green beans to the pan and sautee until beans are hot and coated with oil, around 5 minutes. Beans should still have a little crisp and not soggy after cooking.
- Transfer to a serving bowl. Salt and pepper, to taste. Serve immediately.
