This homemade hot cocoa recipe is such an easy recipe for slow cooker drinks for holidays or party drink recipes.
If you’ve never made hot chocolate with chocolate chips, you’re in for a treat. It’s such a rich and flavorful taste and better than cocoa mix!
Crockpot Hot Chocolate Ingredients
To make crock pot hot chocolate, you’ll need:
- Large crockpot (6+ quarts)
- Whole milk
- Evaporated milk
- Heavy cream
- Chocolate chips (see my tip in the recipe card)
- Traditional hot chocolate toppings
- Mugs

You can make this slow cooker hot chocolate with your favorite chocolate chips.
I like 2 cups of milk chocolate and 1 cup of dark chocolate chips, but you can use all milk chocolate if you like that better.

Crockpot Hot Chocolate
Equipment
- 1 Crockpot (6 quarts or more)
Ingredients
- 6 cups whole milk
- 2 12-ounce cans evaporate milk*
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 3 cups chocolate chips (I use 2 cups milk chocolate and 1 cup dark chocolate)
- Hot cocoa toppings like marshmallows, chocolate shavings, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc. - optional
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a crockpot and stir.
- Place lid on crockpot and set to low. Cook for at least 3 hours, or until heated through.
- Serve with marshmallows, whipped cream, and fun hot chocolate toppings.
IMPORTANT COOKING TIP
- Stir the hot cocoa frequently during the first hour all the way to the bottom to make sure the chocolate isn't sticking to the bottom and burning. After that, replace the lid and stir occasionally until heated through.**
