Best Way To Dip Cookies In Chocolate
The best way to dip cookies and cover them in chocolate is to use a mini slow cooker. The chocolate stays melted while you work your way through covering the cookies. After dipping cookies, run a fork over the top in a circle to create a beautiful swirl on top if you’re leaving them plain or sprinkle immediately with Christmas sprinkles.
A small melter like this works really well for this recipe, especially if you are making this recipe with kids. (If you’re wondering how to melt almond bark, it’s the same process as chocolate and easy in a small crockpot! You can even add it to your excess chocolate.)
You can also use the double boiler method, but it’s not as safe if you’re doing this as kids activities.
You definitely need a piece of wax paper or parchment paper that you can easily remove the sweet treat once the chocolate hardens.
How long are they good for?
How long do chocolate covered Oreos Christmas cookies?
You can store chocolate covered Oreos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a couple of weeks (or more!).
Can you refrigerate Oreo dipped cookies?
Some people refrigerate their Chocolate covered Oreos Christmas cookies or even freeze cookies.
However, I don’t find this to be the best method of storage.
After refrigeration, chocolate cookies will form condensation (they “sweat”) when sitting at room temperature, which makes sometimes makes them soggy or not as good for party platters.
Christmas Dipped Chocolate Oreos Recipe
We used holiday sprinkles for our chocolate Oreos recipe, but you can also use crushed peppermints or crushed candy canes for peppermint bark Oreos.
RECIPE TIP: If you make peppermint Oreos for Christmas, add a little of this peppermint flavoring.

Chocolate Covered Oreos Christmas Cookies
Ingredients
- 12 Oreo cookies
- 24 ounces Green Wiltons Chocolate Melts (or any color / brand chocolate melts)
- Christmas sprinkles of choice
Instructions
- Prepare a counter or baking sheet by spreading with waxed paper or a non-stick baking mat (like a silicone mat).
- In a double boiler (or mini crockpot), melt half of the green chocolate melts.
- Drop one of the sandwich cookies into the melted chocolate. With a fork, carefully flip the cookie over until it is completely covered with the green chocolate.
- With fork, remove sandwich cookie from chocolate and place on a non-stick baking mat.
- Immediately sprinkle with Christmas sprinkles. If leaving plain, swirl the fork on the top of the cookie to make a melted chocolate tip.
- Allow dipped cookies to cool and set while you repeat the process with the remaining cookies.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
