How To Set Up A Popcorn Bar

Popcorn tables are fun party food bars for Halloween festivals, Halloween movie night snacks, or an afternoon snack on Halloween with kids. Popcorn bars are also great for for backyard Halloween party ideas or fall bonfire party / bonfire birthday for Halloween!

If you need last minute Halloween snacks that don’t cost a lot for a frugal party on a budget or party food for a crowd, add a popcorn bar and a few toppings!

HALLOWEEN POPCORN BAR TIP: Pull white cotton candy and place it over popcorn and stringing across the table for edible spider webs.

Heres how to set up a Halloween food bar…

Steps for Setting Up Popcorn Bars:

1. Stock Your Popcorn Station Area

  • Choose a location with enough space for guests to move around the table and customize their popcorn.
  • Use large Halloween themed bowls like these, clear containers, or witch cauldrons like these for different flavors of popcorn.
  • Provide small paper bags, Halloween party cups, or popcorn paper cones like this for guests to fill with their customized popcorn. (Although, I much prefer popcorn boxes like this to cones because guests can easily take their uneaten popcorn home!)

PARTY TIP: We used plain brown paper lunch bags and rolled down the tops. They were a cheap container for popcorn. I like using popcorn bags because it’s easy for party guests to close the bag and take home what they don’t eat like a popcorn party favor!

2. Choose a Variety of Popcorn Flavors

Decide if you’re going to pop popcorn yourself or buy store bought pre-popped popcorn in bags. (Nothing wrong with either way!)

You can also use an air popcorn popper like this to make a lot of popcorn in batches in a short amount of time.

  • Base Options: Plain, Butter, Kettle Corn, and Caramel.
  • Savory Options: Cheese, Garlic Parmesan, Ranch, BBQ.
  • Sweet Options: Chocolate Drizzle, Cinnamon Sugar, Candy-coated (like caramel corn or coated colored popcorn).

3. Provide Fun Popcorn Toppings and Popcorn Mix-Ins

  • Savory Toppings: Bacon bits, grated cheese, dried herbs, taco seasoning, sea salt.
  • Sweet Toppings: Mini marshmallows, sprinkles, M&M’s, crushed cookies, gummy bears.
  • Seasoning Shakers: Offer a variety of popcorn seasoning shakers like ranch, nacho cheese, white cheddar, or cinnamon sugar.
  • Halloween Popcorn Toppings: Candy Corn, Crushed Oreos, Gummy Worms, Halloween Sprinkles, M&M’s (Halloween Colors), Mini Halloween Marshmallows, or gross gummy body parts like this

4. Don’t Forget Serving Scoops and Labels

  • Use large scoops for each popcorn flavor and each topping.
  • Use shakers like these for popcorn seasonings.
  • Make a popcorn bar sign for each of the types of popcorns and toppings. Label each container and topping so guests know what they’re choosing.
  • Add a cute signs like Popcorn Bar or Pop ‘Til You Drop! or Pop It Like It’s Hot!

5. Fun Add-ons

  • Include small trays or containers for guests to carry their popcorn and other snacks.
  • Offer pre-mixed popcorn combinations as inspiration, like S’mores Popcorn (marshmallows, chocolate chips, and graham cracker bits). (Scroll up to see our pre-made recipe recommendations mixes for popcorn.)

PARTY TIP: Place rolls of paper towels and wet wipes around the popcorn table for sticky hands.
