We had a blast playing this muffin tin Christmas game at our Christmas party.
I was tired of regular Christmas gift exchange games (like white elephant or Bad Santa), so I decided to make this party game with prizes instead.
I provided all the prizes, but you could actually do this as a Christmas gift exchange party game (or New Years Eve party game) where everyone brings a gift to exchange.
How To Play The Muffin Tin Christmas Game For Holidays
About The Muffin Tin Game
Bounce ping pong balls into muffin tin spaces and win prizes based on where your ball lands.
This is a great Christmas party game for all ages and fun party game kids and adults can play together. My mom had a blast playing with her granddaughter (my teen daughter – so it’s definitely a fun teen game, too!).
Christmas Muffin Tin Toss Game Supplies
The ping pong muffin tin game is a really simple DIY game that you may be able to do with supplies you have at home.
We used ping pong balls from the Bounce Off game we already had, but you can buy Christmas-themed bounce balls like these if you want to stay in a red and green holiday theme.
To Play The Christmas Bounce Game For Prizes, You’ll Need:
- Large muffin tin
- Ping pong balls (that bounce well!)
- Red and/or green colored paper circles cut to fit the bottom of each muffin tin
- Christmas stickers or star stickers like these
- Lump of coal stickers or Grinch stickers
- Wrapped Christmas prizes of varying types (or, have each guest bring a wrapped prize)
Ping Pong Ball & Muffin Tin Game Setup
Before the Christmas party, cut out construction paper circles that fit inside each muffin cup.
I just traced and cut one and then used that one to cut all the rest.
YOU CAN CUT UP THE BOTTOM OF CUPCAKE LINERS TOO, BUT BE SURE YOU CAN’T SEE THROUGH THE PAPER TO THE STICKER ON THE BACK.
Next, place stickers on the backs of some — BUT NOT ALL — of the paper circles. The stickers will tell the players if they win a prize or don’t win a prize if they land their ping pong ball in that specific muffin tin cup.
- PRIZE STICKERS: Place star stickers or Christmas stickers on the back of some of the paper circles. You will need to make sure you have enough gifts or prizes to match the number of prize stickers you’re placing on the paper. (For example, 6 prizes stickers = 6 prizes to give away.)
- LOSE A PRIZE STICKERS: Place coal or Grinch stickers on the back of a few circles. A player who bounces their ball into this muffin tin cup will have to put a gift back (if they have one).
- NO PRIZE: The rest of your construction paper circles will be blank (no stickers). If a ball lands here, the player doesn’t get a prize (or give one back). Play passes to next person.
Once all the stickers have been placed on the paper circles, randomly place one in each muffin cup WITH STICKER SIDE DOWN so you can’t see them.
That way it’s random and people won’t know where to bounce the ball to get prizes!
IMPORTANT GAME TIP: Before playing the game, make sure that party guests know that some people may end up with no gifts and others may end up with more than one gift.
Muffin Tin Bounce Christmas Game Rules & Game Play Instructions
Gather your guests for game play.
This is one of those holiday games that you definitely need to gather around a table (sitting or standing).
If you have a large party group, you can make several games that are going on at the same time at different tables.
Give each player a ping pong ball.
Make sure to clear the table of open drinks or other things (like food) because we got really crazy during our game.

To Play The Muffin Tin Bounce Game
1. A player bounces the ping pong ball and tries to get it into one of the muffin tin cups.
We play that if the ball bounces off of the muffin tin or off the table, the player loses a turn and play passes to the next person.
2. If a ball lands in a cup, the player gets to flip the colored piece of paper and may or may not get a prize, or they may have to give a prize back!
- Star or Christmas Sticker on the Back: the player gets to pick a wrapped prize from the prize basket or prize table — NO OPENING UNTIL THE END OF THE GAME!
- Grinch or Coal Sticker on the Back: Lose a gift! If the player lands on a spot that has a grinch or coal sticker on the back, then they have to put one of their wrapped gifts back on the gift table and it’s up for grabs again.
- Blank Back: If the ball lands in a muffin tin spot where the paper is flipped and doesn’t have a sticker on the back then play is passed to the next player (no gift is taken or given back).
- Turned Up Sticker: If the ball lands on a turned up sticker, then play passes to the next player.
Leave the circles flipped sticker side up, take back your ping pong ball, and pass play to the next player.
PARTY TIP: These are just the rules that I made up for this holiday game. You can make up any rules you want or make your stickers mean different things, including trade a gift or steal a gift from someone.
3. Play continues until all paper circles have been flipped with stickers up.
If there are still gifts available when all circles have been flipped, shuffle the circles and place them sticker side down, then continue play until all of the gifts have been claimed.
4. Open the gifts!
Everyone who got a gift prize (or prizes) gets to open the gifts and keep what they got!
