My Best Recipes for a Friend Thanksgiving Party

I like to call this ain’t your mama’s green bean casserole.
A couple of years ago we updated the classic green bean casserole recipe and we haven’t gone back since.

Thanksgiving Skillet Corn
If you’re looking for creative Thanksgiving recipes different from what everyone else is serving, definitely make this skillet street corn.
This is one of those friend party recipes where we never (and I mean NEVER) have any leftovers.
My recommendation is to double or triple this recipe (it’s an easy holiday recipe to double) so that you have enough (or have a better chance of Thanksgiving leftovers!).

Best Thanksgiving Dressing Recipe (aka: Turkey Stuffing Recipe)
You can’t have Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas turkey without having turkey dressing or stuffing, right?
This is the one recipe that guests request when we’re making turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas recipes, or if we’re making fried turkey.
You can make this a pan dressing recipe or a stuffed turkey recipe. (I’ve done it both ways and it always turns out great!)
Skip the boxed dressing this year and try this homemade dressing recipe instead.
There are a couple of secret recipe tips that I do that I think elevates this above other dressing recipes.

Old-Fashioned Macaroni & Tomatoes Recipe
If you’re trying to stretch the budget when making Friendsgiving Thanksgiving recipes for a crowd, add this southern recipe for macaroni and tomatoes.
If you’ve never had it, you may think this sounds like a boring and bland recipes. However, these noodles are really flavorful and this is a simple potluck recipe to make and take for Thanksgiving (it’s served room temperature or as cold noodles).

Homemade Mashed Potatoes Recipe
This is our go-to holiday mashed potatoes recipe that are great sides with Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas ham, or holiday roast recipes.
I like making mashed potatoes from scratch (versus boxed mashed potato flakes) because they have a richer flavor and are also heartier to stand up to turkey gravy or other gravy recipes for dinner.
You can also level up this traditional mashed potatoes recipe by adding garlic or cheese.
THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS TIP: If you have leftover mashed potatoes, don’t throw them out! Make this potato cakes recipe instead!
Southern Onion Casserole
If you’ve never had Southern onion casserole, you’re in for a treat!
Believe it or not, the sweet onions cook down in the cheese and make a really mild flavored onion dish that works really well with turkey, ham, roast or if you need vegetarian Thanksgiving recipes.
This is a family favorite recipe that is gone in no time when we make it!
(Never any Thanksgiving leftovers with this casserole recipe!)
Onion casserole is such a simple holiday recipe and can easily be a make-ahead Thanksgiving recipe and then warmed up right before dinner.

Crockpot Green Beans and Potatoes
This is another holiday recipe favorite for me because it goes really well with turkey, ham, prime rib, or pot roast.
Basically, whatever you’re making for dinner, this easy recipe will work.
Plus, it’s a slow cooker recipe where you dump everything into the crockpot, and a set and forget recipe until it’s ready!

Southern Cornbread Salad
This is another side dish recipe that might sound odd if you’ve never had it, but this is a Southern recipe staple at family holidays and cookouts (at least in my family).
And, this is another easy recipe that never has any leftovers at holiday meals.
If you want something besides a traditional salad, give this layered salad recipe alternative a try!

Orzo Salad Recipe
Orzo salad (aka: Insalata Florentine) is one of my favorite salads to make for holidays, cookouts, or even as a healthy dinner.
When I make it with turkey, I leave out the chicken and make this a vegetarian recipe for Thanksgiving for a light and healthy holiday recipe.
It’s also great to make a few days after Thanksgiving when you’re wondering what to do with leftover turkey. Just substitute the chicken for turkey in the recipe.
Classic Crockpot Corn Casserole
If you want something besides a plain corn recipe for turkey dinners, make this slow cooker corn casserole recipe (some people also call it corn pudding).
It’s that classic Jiffy corn casserole in the slow cooker that is a holiday recipe favorite.

Air Fried Asparagus Side Dish Recipe
This is my new favorite way to make asparagus, which is a great side dish with turkey when you’re looking for more green vegetables for Thanksgiving dinner or Friendsgiving brunch.
Because it’s air fried, this dinner side is ready in just minutes.
If you have an air fryer oven you can make large batches to be hot and ready while the holiday table is being set.
Great if you’re looking for healthy sides for Thanksgiving dinner.

Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole Recipe
If you like Cracker Barrel hashbrown casserole, then you’ll love this cheesy potato casserole, too!
I like making this for a Thanksgiving side dish because if you have leftovers it makes a great breakfast casserole for easy day after Thanksgiving meals when you’re tired of cooking.

Black Bean and Corn Salad
If you’re looking for a last minute Thanksgiving recipe to make and take or make ahead recipes, this corn and bean salad is my go-to potluck party recipe.
It’s served cold and makes a great dinner side dish or a holiday appetizer.
We like to serve it as our Friendsiving party appetizer with tortilla chips.

This is another salad recipe that works well for Friendsgiving recipes.

Grandma’s Homemade Cranberry Sauce Recipe
This traditional cranberry sauce recipe is so much better than the suction-from-the-can cranberry sauce.
If you’ve never made fresh cranberry sauce from scratch, I think you’ll be surprised at just how easy it is to make.
It’s not only a perfect side for turkey, but it’s a great spread for a leftover turkey sandwich the next day. Or, use it to make this cranberry dip spread!
Classic Deviled Eggs Recipe
I mean, you knew a recipe for deviled eggs had to make it on the friend Thanksgiving side dish list, right?
